Kayak Coral Creek

October 25th, 2016

We had a pleasant kayak on Coral Creek at 10AM on October 25th. Route was easy lasting about 1 ½ hours.

This is a beautiful route with occasional manatees, wading birds and many jumping fish. Launch area on the road near the Fishery Restaurant in Placida.

A big Thanks to Rolf and Kathy Simonson for leading this paddle.

Nav-A-Gator Paddle:

Tuesday, December 13th at the Nav-A-Gator.  The launch time was at 10:00 a.m.

Eight of us paddled. Water was like glass. Got info on naturalist led paddle. Does not charge if you bring your own kayak. Will plan for January. Will probably have to go two Tuesday's in a row to accommodate large group.  Leads back into remote areas

January 17, 2017 Paddle    Babcock—Webb Lakes

35 kayakers enjoyed a beautiful morning on Webb Lake. Don and Miriam Taylor arranged the paddle and the lunch afterwards.  We split into two groups-the first group heading out about ten minutes before the second group.  There were many new faces!!

Many birds -  egrets, Cormorants and two Sandhill cranes --two gator sightings.

Thanks to Don and Miriam Taylor!!!!

Don added:

“Saw some sand hill cranes while paddling, and no matter how many times we see them, I am always amazed at their size and beauty.  They better be watchful though, there were two big gators nearby and it was about lunch time.  DT  (same holds true for us: they slithered off the bank where we could see them and into the water where we could not.  They were about as long as our kayaks, ha)”

Manatee Park Paddle - January 31, 2017

9:30 am launch

Twenty seven Paddlers braved the cool morning to kayak with the manatees at Manatee Park in Fort Myers. The cold weekend increased the number of manatees to several hundred.  We were lucky to arrive early, by 11 o'clock the parking lot was full. It turned out to be a pleasant sunny day.  The water was clear for great viewing.  There were some real "monsters"!!

Lunch at Rib City followed the paddle.

Thanks for leading the Paddle Cathy!!!

Don Pedro Island - March 21st, 2017

Kathy Leitsch and Jerome Noble lead 30 paddlers to the island. Paddled the tunnels before heading to the beach for a picnic lunch. Paddlers were then able to stay on the beach at their leisure before returning to the park's land base.

Thanks Kathy and Jerome for a great paddle.

April 3rd, 2017 - Happy Hour Paddle - Ponce de Leon Park- launch time 5PM

13 paddlers braved the wind to paddle the tunnels. It was really nice in the tunnels and the wind pushed us back on the rim.  Did not even attempt the harbor. White caps.  About 10 additional members came for the social afterwards. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset and plenty of shared appetizers.

Thank you Cathy Engimann for leading this paddle and all of your hard work in keeping this club together.

Thank you to all those who led paddles this winter. Coral Creek - Rolf and Kathy Simonson, Hickey Creek - Lee Bartlett, Babcock Webb- Don and Miriam Taylor, Sunrise Park- Lee Bartlett, Don Pedro Island- Katy Leitsch and Jerome Noble, and to Fred for putting up with me as I led paddles to Nav-i-gator, Manatee Park, Snook Haven and Ponce. It is easy to lead a paddle--consider teaming up with and experienced leader and lead a paddle!

Impromptu Paddle - Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Launch time 10AM Shell Creek. Launch from Hathaway Park Kayak Launch. 5 of us braved the HUGE Alligators found swimming across the creek.  It was perfect weather for such a beautiful paddle.  See pictures and video in the Gallery.

Liverpool Island Paddle April 12th , 2017

Impromptu Paddle Coral Creek

May 9th, 2017

This is a beautiful route with occasional manatees, wading birds and many jumping fish. Launch area on the road near the Fishery Restaurant in Placida.

Head west from Murdock (junction of El Jobean and 41) about 12 miles to Gasparilla Road. Turn left toward Placida about 8 miles.  Just over the bridge (bridge is after the Gasparilla Marina) turn left toward Placida Fishing Village/Fishery Restaurant. Then take the first left into the parking lot at the base of the bridge you just crossed. Launch area is under the bridge.

No bathrooms at the launch but they are available at Placida Park. Instead of turning left into the Placida Fishing Village continue on Gasparilla Road a short distance to the traffic light. Turn left (on the Boca Grande Causeway) and enter the Park on the right.
